(It also = the number of timed miles I will be running this summer!)
3.5
This Thursday, I’ll be participating in the J.P. Morgan Chase Corporate Challenge 3.5-mile run in Central Park with some co-workers from the publishing company where I work. Our company hasn’t participated in this race since 2006, but that year was a LOT of fun! There’s not much “team spirit” in my life these days, so I get a kick out of wearing coordinated t-shirts and stretching with my fellow bookworms
My only goals are to have fun and run the whole thing at a slow, comfortable pace.
6.2
On August 23, my friend Jen and I are running this race together! After we went on this run in the park together and realized that we run at the exact same stride + pace (not to mention a ridiculous run last week that involved Arthur, her two dogs, and a rainstorm), we decided we’d be perfect training partners. I’m really looking forward to all our sweaty summer training runs
(Any other New Yorkers want to join?! We’ll probably spend the weekend in Long Island enjoying the lovely beaches!)
It feels SO GOOD to be running again, however infrequently/slowly. I’m takin’ this slow!

Say hello to my new training partners:

Orthotics! (oh, and my favorite skirt too
)
I’ve been putting off getting a pair of these for years, even though both podiatrists and chiropractors have told me that I should absolutely get a pair if I have any intent of doing aerobic exercise for the rest of my life. Since quitting the gym, I’ve spent a considerable amount of time on my feet doing weight-bearing exercise (running, jogging, walking), and I want to continue this, so I bit the bullet and shelled out the cash for these.
I was fitted for them two weeks ago and received them a week ago. Since then, I’ve been slowly breaking them in (wore them for 1 hour the first day, 2 hours the second day, etc.). I may need to get them adjusted because the outside of my left foot is pretty sore, but my knees and ankles definitely feel more stabilized and the arch support is awesome (each step feels like a mini foot massage!) My balance has been wonky, though—one of the orthotics gives me an extra 3/8 in. in height on one side (to even out my uneven legs) and it’s throwing me off!
Between the orthotics, runs, walking with Arthur, and cheap hot yoga, I think I’m in for a fun summer!
What are your summer fitness goals?

Congrats on signing up for these races! I admire runners even though it’s not my exercise of choice. I have heard that orthotics can be so expensive, but I’m sure that soon you’ll feel like they paid for themselves.

congrats on signing up for the races and getting your orthotics! sounds like you will have a fun summer
I want to keep running and maybe get a tiny bit faster, do more yoga!, and swim/kayak more now that we have one.

I’m glad you got the orthotics! I have whacked out flat feet, and also got custom orthotics. They’ve helped so much!
Good luck on the races! They sound like a lot of fun.
My summer fitness goals are pretty non-existent because I’m getting surgery soon, and am not allowed to exercise. So I guess my goal is to SOMEHOW stay sane without being able to work out!

Aww, that skirt makes me happy because it has been owned by three Strong Beautifuls in a row.
I just packed both my Corporate Challenge 2006 and my company t-shirt for my trip. Feeling a little nostalgic, and wishing I could be there tomorrow. Have a great run — I’ll be cheering from afar!

Your races sounds great!!
I’ve just started BOOT CAMP so my goal is to finish the 8 weeks and really give it my all. I’ll also be dancing in my first belly dancing recital at the end of the month which is very exciting!

I’m not sure how you managed to only limit coffee to breakfast. That makes you my hero!
